The purposes of this study were to develop techniques of eel calture in heat dome and study the commercial returns of eel rearing. This research was designed for 3 treatments; raising eel in ponds without plastic covering (T1), raising in clear plastic cover ponds (T2) and culturing in black plastic cover ponds (T3). Eel were fed fresh feed for 120 days. The result indicated that the growth rate of the eel was statistically different (p <0.05). It was found that the eel reared in ponds with the black plastic cover (T3) had the best growth rate (0.21 ? 0.02 g /day) while those in non-covered pond (T1) and clear plastic cover (T2) had the growth rates of 0.18 ? 0.02 g / day and 0.16 ? 0.01 g / day, respectively. For the feed cost analysis, it was revealed that the feed cost of the black plastic cover ponds (T3) had the lowest (65.60 baht /1 kg of production) while feed cost in uncovered ponds (T1) and covered with clear plastic (T2) had a value of 74.60 baht / 1 kg of production and 66.90 baht / 1 kg of production, respectively. In addition, covering the ponds with black plastic increased the water temperature for 2.4-3.2 degrees Celsius compared to the ponds that was not covered. Finally, this finding may guide to farmers who grow the eel to generate their income in Phayao lake area.
