This study was conducted to use vertical subsurface flow constructed wetland treating wastewater from fish culture. The treatment efficiency of constructed wetland was study with 2 emergent plants, Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott, Ipomoea aquatica Forsk and 1 floating algae, Phormidium sp., that were identified and selected from Nile Tilapia culture. The lab-scale constructed wetlands were built in 4 units. Two type of plants, cocoyam and swamp morning glory, were planted in unit 1 and unit 2, respectively. Phormidium sp. was planted in unit 3 while unplanted system was a control unit in unit 4. The untreated fish culture wastewater was passed through sedimentation tanks for 24 hours before pass through the constructed wetlands. Retention time (HRT) was 3 day. The results showed that the constructed wetlands with algae and plant systems gave better in the treatment efficiency than unplant system. Algae system and each plant system had difference removal efficiency in organic loading, nutrient, suspended solids and microorganism. Influent sedimentation was increase treatment efficiency 30%. The experiment results conclude that difference plant and algae gave difference increased treatment efficiency in construction wetland system.
