The objectives of this research are (1) to study the returns from commercial raising of cricket (2) to study the break-even point from commercial raising of cricket; and (3) to study the success factors of commercial cricket raising. This study collects the data from the farmers who are the members of Ban Mae Tad Organic Farming Community Enterprise, Huai Sai Sub-district, San Kamphaeng District, Chiang Mai Province. The data is collected by using in-depth interviews. The success factors of raising cricket are collected by the in-depth interviews of 5 farmers. For analyzing the cost and return such as break-even point, net profit per cost ratio, net profit margin, payback period, net present value and the internal rate of return, this study will analyze the financial data for of the crickets raising on the pond size 1.2 m x 1.2 m x 0.8 m height. Thus, this study collected the financial data from 3 farmers.
The results showed that the 1st farmer had a break-even point of 44.39 kg per pond. The 2nd farmer had a break-even point of 58.44 kg per pond. Finally, the 3rd farmer had a break-even point of 26.38 kg per pond. In addition, the 3rd farmer has the highest rate of return on investment per pond per production cycle, the highest net profit per investment per pond per production cycle comparing to other farmers. This is because the 3rd farmer can produce more quantity than the 1st and the 3rd farmer can control the cost better than the 2nd farmer. As a result, the 3rd farmer has a lower payback period than and a higher net present value and a higher rate of return than other farmers. Factors affecting the success to increase productivity and income of raising crickets such as techniques, humidity control, temperature control, care for raising cleaning and seeking additional knowledge, etc. In addition, cost control is a key element in raising cricket.
