The objective of this study was to study the efficiency of fresh pineapple production under the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) standard for export, motivation and factors affecting the decision of fresh pineapple production, problem and obstacles in the production of fresh pineapples for developing production efficiency and competing in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). Data were surveyed form the samples of pineapple producers in Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan provinces using the sample size of 282 which is classified as 117 fresh pineapple growers and 165 factory pineapples. The statistics used for analysis are descriptive statistics, chi-squared test, multiple regression analysis and logistic regression analysis. The results were as follows:
The pineapple cultivated is Pattawia, Phetchaburi1, MD2, etc. The average yield was 5.88 tons / rai, the average production cost does not include the plant was 21,106 baht/rai, the number of seedlings 7,223 7,600 and 5,000 trees/rai, respectively.
In term of production efficiency, it was found that about one third of the growers were certified according to GAP standards. The fresh pineapple growers complied with the GAP standard better than factory pineapple farmers. The efficiency of production depends on the knowledge of farmers, especially the GAP standard training and fresh pineapple cultivation training.
In addition, the factors affecting the decision of fresh pineapple cultivation were domicile, GAP compliance and fresh pineapple cultivation training. it was found that higher price of fresh pineapples is an important incentive for the cultivation of fresh pineapples.
The results show that problems and obstacles in pineapple cultivation were the decline in product prices, high production costs, funding issue, unstable yields, pest and disease, respectively. Moreover, growers wanted the government to provide assistance in terms of prices, market to distribute produce and funds for growers.
