In the study of Cotton fabric skirt, Lai Kan – The wisdom of Thai Lanna were qualitative research. The objectives of the study were 1) Context of Cotton fabric skirt, Lai Kan weaver 2) The wisdom of the differences unique of Cotton fabric skirt, Lai Kan 3) The weaving group development guidelines in Chiang Mai and Lamphun provinces. There were 11 samples in the studied by purposive sampling and snowball sampling. Data were collected by means of participant observation and non-participant observation, Interview and focus group discussion. After that, content analysis by grouping data according to objectives.
From the study of objective 1, Context of Cotton fabric skirt it was found that the weavers in Chiang Mai province 9 districts and Lamphun province 2 districts. All were female, most of them graduated from primary school, marital status,They had own loom and weaving assistants. There were 9 groups of Cotton fabric skirt, Lai Kan weaving groups registered as community enterprises and not registered in 2 groups.
From the study of objective 2, The wisdom of the differences unique of Cotton fabric skirt, Lai Kan it was found that each community in the area of Chiang Mai and Lum Phun There are different races living That made the pattern were different especially the unique of tracery identity of each races of Lanna Which in Chiang Mai province including ; Tai Yuan, Tai Lue, Tai Kheun and Tai Yai and Lam Phun province had the Tai Yong race. Cotton fabric skirt Lai Kan including ; top part of skirt, middle part of skirt and lower part of skirt: but the part of Lai Kan most were on middle part of skirt, one color cotton fabric no have tracery on top part of skirt and the lower part of skirt used all both of one color cotton fabric or Teen Jok textiles to connect but still found that had weaving cotton fabric skirt Lai Kan since the top part of skirt to lower part of skirt non divided. The name of Lai Kan skirt had another name to call were “Sin Tah” Which that has to call the Lai Kan skirt each category including ; Sin Tah Mud, Sin Tah.Which is the prototype for each races, Weave and apply local patterns It makes a variety of Lai Kan skirt That had characteristics of the weaving techniques and dying the local identity of their own in present.
From the study of objective 3, The weaving group development guidelines in Chiang Mai and Lamphun provinces it was found that 1) The development of the weaving group to carry on the wisdom of the Cotton fabric skirt, Lai Kan by the community. found that the development ofthe weaving group by skirt weaver leaders in the community, the young generation and the establishment of a learning center in the community 2) The development of the weaving group to carry on the wisdom of the Cotton fabric skirt, Lai Kan by the government agencies. found that Including the Subdistrict Administration, Organization Tourism industry And the Provincial Industry Office. 3) The development of the Cotton fabric skirt, Lai Kan weaving group with the participation of various sectors in the community such as Village members, Cultural promotion from community temples and learning curriculum in the community boarding school
