This research studied on the effects of eleven different doses of acute gamma irradiation
include 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 Gy to induce genetics variations of Turmeric
(Curcuma longa Linn.). The experiments were conducted between March 2018 and March 2019 at
the demonstration farm of Maejo University, Chiang Mai. Radiation sensitivity tests revealed that
the LD50 values were achieved at 55 Gy. In irradiated plants, the plant size, number of leaves, leaf
size, number of shoots, weight of rhizome and curcumin content decreased significantly as the
radiation dose increased. In addition, the height concentration of gamma irradiation induce
morphological variations of turmeric include leaf chlorosis, dwarf plant, small size of rhizome and
large size of root storage etc.
