The tradition of Maejo-Sansai Walk-Run began in 1962 to welcome the 27th batch of students. It was initiated by Professor Dr. Wipat Boonsri Wangsai, who served as the Director of the Chiang Mai Agricultural College (currently Maejo University). The purpose was to test the endurance and resilience of the students who applied to study at Maejo University during that time. Originally, the students had to run from the city to Maejo as a part of their entrance examination. It was considered an additional score in addition to the interview because agricultural students needed to have strong and healthy bodies, as well as endurance, following the motto of Professor Dr. Wipat Boonsri Wangsai: "Hard work never kills." This tradition eventually evolved into the Maejo-Sansai Walk-Run, which is still celebrated today.

This year, new undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students from various provinces such as Chiang Mai, Phrae, and Chumphon participated in the event, totaling more than 6,000 people. In addition, the general public and alumni also joined this event. The competition was divided into three categories: general participants, new students, and Maejo alumni.'>

The traditional event, Maejo-San Sai Walk-Run, was held to promote community bonding. On Thursday, June 29, 2566, Dr. Amnuay Yossuk, the President of Maejo University's Council, presided over the opening ceremony of the charity walk-run event from Maejo University to Sansai. The event took place at the starting point near the Bang Khen Gate (next to the PTT gas station on Sansai Old Road) and ended at the Sansai Luang Subdistrict Municipal Sports Field. New students were encouraged to participate in this activity, and they were welcomed by Mr. Sivat Thomikanont, the Mayor of San Sai District, along with other local government officials. The alumni and senior students of Mae Jo University, as well as the local community, provided food, drinks, and fruits to support and encourage the participants throughout the route, from Maejo University to the Sansai Luang Subdistrict Municipal Sports Field in San Sai District, Chiang Mai Province.
