On November 27, 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Weerapon Thongma, President of Maejo University, presided over the opening ceremony of the 5th International Conference on Agroforestry (ICAF). The event, organized by Maejo University in collaboration with The Southeast Asian Network for Agroforestry Education (SEANAFE) and the ASEAN Agricultural University Network (AAUN), took place from November 27 to 29, 2024. The conference aimed to build international cooperation networks with global organizations and was attended by 100 participants, including students, faculty, and researchers from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, at Maejo University's International Education and Training Center in Chiang Mai.

During the event, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between Maejo University and SEANAFE. The signing was officiated by Associate Professor Dr. Weerapon Thongma, President of Maejo University, and Prof. Dr. Wilfredo M. Carandang, Executive Director of SEANAFE.

The conference, held under the theme "Agroforestry for Sustainable Development (AG4DEV)," aimed to provide a platform for exchanging scientific information on agroforestry research, development, and innovations at an international level. It featured special lectures by experts and sought to foster research and development collaboration at regional and international levels. The conference promoted the use of agroforestry systems in Southeast Asia, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and supported Maejo University's policy of advancing toward its 100-year transition plan, the "GO-Eco" initiative for sustainable development from 2024 to 2577 (2024-2034).
