An orchid farm under the Plant Genetic Conservation Project under the royal initiation of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri SirindhornFarmers (RSPG) is located in Maerim district, Chiang Mai. The farm hosts a large variety of orchid plants which are growth densely on the branch of the mango trees. Hence, it is very difficult tasks to identify their species, locate a specific orchid, and create a database. Currently, RSPG officers used handwritten paper tags to identify the orchids on the tree branches. This tagging approach has several disadvantages: vulnerable, difficult to read, hideous, and hostile to the plants. Moreover, the farm does not have any system in place for environmental data logging.
We have developed a database system for genuine royal Thai orchid for management data in the orchid farm. The system are divided into three parts. First, the weather data which is integrated with Internet of Things technology are used for collecting weather data such as temperature, humidity and wind speed. Second, we developed a handheld Raspberry Pi tool with RFID technology for farm data management. The amount of 452 tags were installed on 56 trees for storing orchid physical data. Third, a website database was built for the officer. We evaluated our system by conducting the user satisfactory questionnaire. The system received an overall score of 4.08 out of 5.
